Baby Raptors and Retail Roots: Inside Episode 3 of Time Well Played

A 23-piece dinosaur, one surprising fact about Ryan, and a story about where Plus-Plus actually lives in the world, that's the whole episode this week. Ryan sits down at the Build Table to bring a baby Raptor to life, takes a Quick Break to answer an unexpected question, then heads into Plus-Plus Pals for a conversation about the retail partners who've carried the brand for almost 15 years.

Building the Baby Raptor

The baby Raptor is one of the guided builds from the Puzzle By Number Dinosaur Activity Pad, and Ryan added the step-by-step guide to the free Plus-Plus app so more builders could give it a try. It takes just 23 pieces, and Ryan builds it in classic fashion: starting with the body, then finishing with the head last. It's a quick build with a lot of personality, and kids love remixing it into every color combination imaginable.

Quick Break: Something You Don't Know

Before the retail talk, Ryan answers this episode's Quick Break question: what's something unexpected we don't know about you? Turns out, he once sang at Carnegie Hall with his university choir, a chance to perform on stage in New York that not many people get.

Meet Our Retail Friends

From there, the conversation turns to something core to how Plus-Plus does business. Unlike a lot of brands that launch consumer-first and treat retail as an afterthought, Plus-Plus started in physical retail almost 15 years ago, and that relationship has only grown since. Today, Plus-Plus shows up in some pretty unexpected places, from the Museum of Modern Art to Barnes & Noble to independent toy stores in towns across the country. That national reach still runs through a small, close-knit team that keeps the retail relationships personal, not just transactional.

The Time Well Played Thesis

Every Plus-Plus product starts as an idea on a page and a few hundred tries to get the build just right, because when that box of pieces lands in your hands, whatever gets built next should be worth every minute. One shape, endless creativity. That's the guarantee, and it's the whole idea behind Time Well Played: time back for parents, and quality time for kids, built one piece at a time.
